National Day of Prayer

2009 May 7
by mbcloudoun

We are excited about today’s National Day of Prayer. This day is designated by Congress for the people of the United States to gather together to pray for our nation, government, military, churches, leaders, families, and communities.

We hope you will join the staff of MBC Loudoun at 11:30-12:30 today in the auditorium as we lift up our country, our church, and ourselves before Almighty God. For a preview of what we’ll be praying through, or if you are unable to join us and would like to participate in the National Day of Prayer individually, we hope the attached documents will be helpful for you.

May God bless you as you seek Him today.

Personal, Church, and National Prayer

An outline for self-guided prayer

Preparation:

Psalm 63:1-3

“1 God, You are my God; I eagerly seek You. I thirst for You; my body faints for You in a land that is dry, desolate, and without water. 2 So I gaze on You in the sanctuary to see Your strength and Your glory. 3 My lips will glorify You because Your faithful love is better than life.”

Reflections

  • Praise God for the revelation of who He is in His Word.
  • Confess anything that could hinder your fellowship with God; ask for forgiveness and cleansing
  • Be still in your spirit; give him all your anxieties; allow His Spirit to draw you near to God
  • Listen as He speaks to you

Personal Renewal:

John 4:13-14

“Jesus said, ‘Everyone who drinks from this water will get thirsty again. But whoever drinks from the water that I will give him will never get thirsty again—ever! In fact, the water I will give him will become a well of water springing up within him for eternal life.’”

Ask God to…

  • Give you a deeper longing to walk with Him
  • Help you be willing to do his will, especially in those areas that may be difficult for you to “let go”
  • Reveal to you insight that you need for your life and ministry
  • Remind you of His great love for you
  • Give you confidence in his mercy for past failures so that you can move forward with confidence
  • Lift any heavy load that has weighed down your spirit
  • Renew your spiritual joy

Church Renewal:

Ephesians 1:16-20

I have not stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance. I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.

Ask God to…

  • Bless your church with what Paul prayed for the church in Ephesus
  • Break down all personal and interpersonal barriers to renewal
  • Raise up from among your church family, Spirit-led and gifted leaders and workers who will do the ministry of the church with power and effectiveness
  • Strengthen your church’s commitment to its mission
  • Teach your church family how to have joy as the overarching emotion in your fellowship
  • Help your pastors maintain the right spiritual priorities
  • Surround your pastors and their families with His protection
  • Remind your pastor of His great love for him
  • Reveal to your pastor anything that stands in the way of his walk with God
  • Help families in the church live in peaceful harmony with one another

National Revival:

I Timothy 2:1-6

I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior,  who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. For there is only one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus. He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message God gave to the world at just the right time.

Ask God to…

  • Teach his people how to pray more fervently, sincerely, and biblically for the leadership of our country
  • Speak to all the people of our nation of their need to turn to God through Christ and to turn away from their ways which do not please God
  • Give leaders at every level common sense wisdom to make decisions that are in alignment with God’s will for society
  • Raise up a new generation of Christians who will assume positions of leadership throughout the country
  • Reveal His great love through Jesus to every person
  • Empower Christians to share their faith gently and persistently with biblical rationale and authentic persuasion so that non-Christians can understand the message of Christ and believe on Christ
  • Restrain Satan from blinding the minds of people to the truth of the Gospel and to open their hearts to that Gospel

Thanksgiving

Psalm 28:6

Praise be to the LORD, for he has heard my cry for mercy.

Reflections

  • Thank God for hearing you
  • Trust that God is at work to accomplish His will
