Train Them Up
I overheard a dad being a great father and spiritual leader today.
As he was walking out of the church holding his son’s hand, he turned to his son and said, “You know what I learned about today? I learned about loving God. What did you learn about today?”
I love that the father shared what he learned with his son. We also love that the father was taking the next step to help his son apply what he had learned in our elementary program in his everyday life. He was allowing the church to be a resource in his child’s spiritual training, but he was taking ownership to be the primary faith trainer in his son’s life –by equipping himself with God’s Word, helping his child to be equipped, and taking the initiative to have conversations and help his child apply God’s truth to his life.
This dad exemplified Deuteronomy 6:6-7:
These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
We pray for parents at MBC Loudoun as they seek to be the primary faith trainers for their children.
