Get Out of the Way and Let God Work!

A Success Story by MJ Wivell, MBC Loudoun Attendee

Our small group is going through the “Unexpected Adventure” alongside MBC Loudoun. In our first meeting we each rated ourselves on a scale of 1 to 10 on how we are doing sharing our faith with unbelievers. I gave myself a 2 only because I’ve been “thinking” about sharing my faith, but haven’t followed through with it. In fact, I’ve found myself too concerned with what others may think if I bring up Jesus and this fear has kept me silent.

The next morning following our first “Unexpected Adventure” study I found myself in a conversation with a coworker. While conversing about life I felt the Lord nudging me to ENGAGE my coworker in a spiritual conversation. As I stood there I tried to push the Lord’s prompting away, but I felt anxiety building within me. Finally, I couldn’t take it anymore and I knew I had to speak up. The conversation continued with:

MJ: “Do you have any spiritual beliefs?”

Coworker: “Yes – I’ve just recently started going to church.”

MJ: “Really! That’s great! Do you believe in Heaven and Hell?”

Coworker: “Yes.”

MJ: “If you died today would where would you go?”

Coworker: “Heaven.”

MJ: “Why would you go to Heaven?”

Coworker: “Because I’m a good person and don’t sin.”

MJ: “Would you have a moment for me to share the story of Christ?”

I went on to walk through Romans Road with my coworker. By the end of the conversation my coworker understood the true definition of sin, that he was a sinner, that Christ had died for his sins, and only through His grace could my coworker accept the gift of eternal life. Once he understood that Christ had died for his sins and Christ had rose from the dead, we finished with 2 Corinthians 5:15 which states we should no longer live for ourselves, but for Christ.

At the end of the conversation I asked my coworker if he was willing to surrender his life to Jesus Christ and invite Him into his heart. I was shocked when my coworker said YES! So we prayed and He accepted Christ!

Little did I know that others were planting seeds into my coworker’s life long before I engaged him with a spiritual conversation. I’m learning to get out of the way of God and just let Him do His work through me.

If I can do it – you can too! God is Great!
