October KIDstuff – Individuality
by Kathy Scherrer, Kid’s Quest Parent
I am fairly new to MBC but I am drawn to serve in a way that is meaningful to myself, to the church, and especially to God. I was invited to attend Kid Stuff and eventually write about it. Fortunately, I have a daughter in the 3rd grade so it was something she could attend and enjoy as well. I had no idea what to expect. What happened next was very special. The room was filled with so much energy and excitement. The kids who were part of the show were filled with pride about being able to get their peers AND parents involved with worshiping God. The kids that were in the audience couldn’t keep themselves from joining in with dancing and singing. Then I noticed that the parents were up on their feet, dancing and smiling at how excited their children were.
Kid Stuff introduces the virtue of the month, which for October is Individuality. Individuality is “Discovering who you are meant to be so you can make a difference.”
Each of us is alive for a “reason.” It is unbelievably exciting to know that I am here to make a difference and that my children have been born to make a difference. I am so eager to discover with them what their impact will be during their life. The good and bad experiences we have are all supposed to happen so that we can be prepared for that “reason.” We are being shaped to become an individual that will make a difference in our lifetime. It’s truly awesome and it makes me so happy to be alive each day. It helps me gain perspective on the big and little events that happen each day. Maybe that flat tire, spilled juice, or extra needed hug from our son/daughter seem like an inconvenience or delay in our hectic schedule, but they happen for a reason. I am supposed to experience these seemingly insignificant moments for a reason. God is so intertwined in the details of my life and I am grateful.
God has presented me with an incredible opportunity to share the gift He has given me with those who come across this article and read these words. What makes me an individual is the ability to write; to communicate a specific message through the written word.
Kid Stuff isn’t just for kids. It’s another reminder that we have the opportunity to help our children develop a relationship with Jesus. As a fellow parent, I encourage you to take advantage of every chance you have to show each other and ourselves how amazing and intense it can be to have God interwoven into our lives.
Parents help your kids discover who they are meant to be by filling out an ICU card about what makes your child special! Pick them up on the Elementary slat wall.
