Even the Small Things

by Joyce, Volunteer with Access Ministry @ MBC Loudoun

On Saturday, March 20th, I dropped some food off to the food bank at Tysons. I noticed the diamond in my ring was gone. I retraced my steps, but to no avail; I could not find it. A woman noticed that I was looking for something and came over. After I shared what happened, she told me that she had lost a diamond many years back and started to help me look for it. We both searched and searched, but no diamond. I commented “Oh well, maybe the Lord didn’t mean for me to have this ring.” The woman stopped and said, “Well, let’s pray about it.” So, we did, but I was skeptical that God was concerned about a lost diamond stone. We searched some more and then gave up. As we were walking outside together, I stopped and asked what her name was. We chatted some more and she looked down and guess what she saw……it was the diamond!

It’s always interesting to get another person’s perspective on the same event: I helped to look for this diamond. She acknowledged that God knew where it was and He would let her find it if it was His will. If not, she would trust Him and it was OK. I had just attended the Leadership Summit where I Sam. 2:30 was mentioned. I quoted that verse in my prayer, reminding the Lord that she was honoring God with what she said, with her gift to the food pantry, and with her volunteering in Access. I asked God to honor His word by being gracious and allowing her to find the diamond. We were both leaving the building at the same time. As I pushed open the door, my body stopped abruptly. I noticed how unnatural that felt–and found the diamond in front of my toe! I picked it up, put it in her hand and started praising the Lord.
