God in the Foxhole
by Amelia Sipress, Associate Director of Ministry Teams @ MBC Loudoun
November’s Second Saturday event gave us an opportunity to bless those in service as we teamed up with Operation Kindness to write encouraging postcards to our military who are currently serving our country at home and abroad. We wrote over 150 cards! Our soldiers will receive these cards around Christmastime. Thank you to all who came out to support our troops!
We also took the time to remember and honor our past veterans – the men and women who died in service to our country and those who are still with us. George Thigpen, an MBC Loudoun attendee, shared about his ‘God in the Foxhole’ experience overseas in the 84th Infantry Division during World War II where he saw 7 months of combat. While George was in Normandy, he had the opportunity to give a cross medallion to a fellow soldier and his college dorm-mate, Bill. Bill put the cross around his neck, with his I.D. tags, to help him remember God’s strength while he was in combat. For the full story, you can check out the video below.
Our next Second Saturday will be on December 10, 2011. We are having a Gingerbread Decorating Contest after the Saturday service in the MBC Café. Please join us for a fun-filled evening!
What an inspiration. Truly heroic!
Holly – Thanks. It was truly amazing and an honor to work with George in the making of this video. His story is an inspiration to me and I wish I could’ve showed the entire video but that would’ve been too long! :)
