by Lauren Payne, Associate Director of Ministry Teams @ MBC Loudoun

If you missed April’s Second Saturday Event, it was a powerful one. Campus Pastor Jim Supp shared the story of the transforming power for Jesus Christ in his life –and ultimately the lives of his family members. I don’t want to give too much away, but his story is a great reminder about how a simple outreach –and invitation- can be used to bring someone into a relationship with Christ.

For those who wondered about the Boston Crème donuts and their connection to his story, well, it’s as simple as this: they’re Jim’s favorite. No deep, spiritual meaning, but they were quite tasty!

If you missed Jim share his story and want to hear it, you are in luck. Jim is working on recording his story and making it available on CD and online to anyone who wants it. An announcement will be made when it is available.

The next Second Saturday Event is May 8th, and you certainly won’t want to miss it! We will be having a BBQ on the back patio BEFORE the Saturday service. Come at 5:30pm for some barbequed goodies and fellowship!

The crock pots are empty, the votes are in and the count was close. But the winner is…..Jill Atchison’s “Some Like it Hot” (or #2) Chili! If you see Jill, please congratulate her on her win! Special thanks to all who contributed their delicious homemade chili for October’s Second Saturday Event. Jill was kind enough to share her winning recipe below. Thanks Jill!

Be sure to mark your calendars for Nov 14th for our next Second Saturday Event. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, Operation Kindness will be providing cards for people to write a message of thanks to our troops who are serving our country. Hot apple cider and fall goodies will be provided.

My super simple chili recipe:
1lb browned hamburger
2 14.5 oz cans diced tomatoes
2 15 oz cans tomato sauce
1 can Bush’s chili beans
1 envelope chili seasoning (found in the spice aisle of most grocery stores)

Combine all ingredients and place in either a crock pot for approx. 5 hrs or in a large saucepan for about an hour (stirring frequently).

by Rachael Jankowsky and the DC Schools Project Team

Over the past week the DC Schools Project team has gotten several questions as to how the outreach went and so we wanted to update you. This year we had over 450 volunteers serve at 58 schools all over The District. Our volunteers served alongside community members, teachers, administrators and students as they spruced up DC Public Schools for the start of the school year.

Our volunteers were armed with promo cards advertising all MBC/FL campuses and services times, and a business-sized card used as a tool for sharing the Gospel. Our volunteers also all had the option of going through a training guide of how to be effective in sharing their faith.

Thanks to everyone from all of our different campuses and from all different ministry areas for getting the word out and for helping to make this year’s DC Schools Project a success. Not only is this event preparing DC for an MBC campus and reaching out to people in the name of Jesus, it is also challenging and equipping our community at MBC to live out their faith every day!

Thanks again for all of your help and support this year.

Thank you, MBC Loudoun, for an amazing time together at the campus BBQ! The Lord provided an absolutely perfect day and an amazing team of volunteers who helped 500 people connect in biblical community with one another. What an amazing day.

Our community also helped share the message of Christ with others by supporting the Great Commission. Thank you for your generous support of what Christ is doing through ORPHANetwork in Nicaragua. Thank you also to our extremely generous community and congregation members who donated everything from golf packages, vacation packages, private airplane rides, gym memberships, beauty supplies, and more. We are excited for our first mission team headed there in a few weeks, and we are grateful for your support through the dunk tank and silent benefit. Thank you for your partnership in the Gospel!

“In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Phil 1:4-6)

Just a quick note to say THANK YOU for your help with the move in at the Prince William campus… to all the Creative Arts Ministry Tech staff for months of preparation of equipment and site work, coordination of the move and loading the trucks… to the PW Staff for vision for PW, all the coordination with the volunteers, food, and hard work the day of the move…. and to the many other departments within Tysons, Loudoun, Frontline (IT, Kids Quest, Rock, Ministry Services, Finance, Facilities, etc….) AND to all the volunteers that came out to help…. We had a great time …. Great turn out… Great People who CARE.

We had a very successful day with the move in .. 6+ full truck loads of “stuff.” All the unloading was complete by 3PM, and a number of folks stayed till 5PM to help with the final clean up and auditorium house light project. My estimate is that we moved over 10 tons of A/V equipment, furnishing, rock and kid “stuff”… now we have to setup it all up and making it ready for use – over the next 5 weeks. I know I can count of you and others that the Lord will provide to make that happen….

The Lord truly blessed us with good weather, great support and workers who all have a heart for the work that the Lord is doing and will be doing through his church in Prince William, and all of the McLean campuses worldwide…

Thanks,

Dear MBC Loudoun Community,

I am thrilled to share with you some exciting news that I believe will help us further impact Loudoun for Christ. After much discussion and prayer by our staff, as well as the senior leadership of MBC, we have decided to launch a Saturday evening service here at MBC Loudoun. Beginning the weekend of June 6 and 7, we will be transitioning from a 12:30 Sunday service to a 6:30pm Saturday evening service. I am excited that we will be offering children’s programming through 5th grade on Saturday evenings beginning June 6 as well.

I believe this decision will provide a great opportunity for growth at our campus. As we move toward the coming launch, I hope you will join me in praying for God to use this in a mighty way and for His orchestration of all the logistics and details. A few of those logistics and details include the following:

Please pray for our 12:30 service attendees. We value them and their commitment to the work the Lord is doing through MBC Loudoun. We know many of them will be saddened but hope they will find new direction with us in this transition.

To help ensure a solid core and successful launch of our Saturday service, I am asking 20 families to commit to attending Saturday night for at least six months and to serve at least one time per month in some capacity around that service. I hope you will pray about being one of these families, and I will pray for those families who join us Saturday evenings.

Please pray God would draw people to our newly forming Saturday evening teams: Kids Quest (Elementary, Preschool and Nursery), ushers, greeters, parking, welcome center, and communion.

As some of our valuable Sunday morning team leaders and members transfer to the Saturday night service, please pray the Lord would raise up those who are not currently serving with a desire to fill Sunday morning positions.

Please pray for this valuable outreach opportunity as families and individuals are in their neighborhoods, at sporting events and at BBQs on Saturdays this summer, that they would invite their friends and neighbors to join them for our new Saturday evening service.

Please pray as we seek to fill several new part time staff positions as a result of this new service. They are:

Ministry Teams Associate Director – to develop and oversee Saturday night teams as well as work with outreach and communications. Contact susie.battle@mcleanbible.org for more information.

Elementary Coordinator – to develop and oversee teams for K through 5th grade. Contact leanne.smart@mcleanbible.org for more information.

Preschool Coordinator – to oversee teams for preschoolers. Contact leanne.smart@mcleanbible.org for more information.

Nursery Coordinator – to oversee teams for infants and toddlers. Contact leanne.smart@mcleanbible.org for more information.

I am excited about all God is doing and will do through this new service. It is a pleasure to serve Him with you. I pray He blesses you.

If I may serve you in any way, please let me know.

Remember this passage out of the book of Acts:

From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. Act 17:26-27

Serving Christ with you in Loudoun County,
Jim Supp, Campus Pastor @ MBC Loudoun

National Day of Prayer
May 7, 2009

Prayer…America’s Hope!

“Prayer is the easiest and the hardest of all things; the simplest and the sublimest; the weakest and the most powerful; its results lie outside the range of human possibilities – they are limited only by the omnipotence of God. Few Christians have anything but a vague idea of the power of prayer; fewer still have any experience of that power. The Church seems almost wholly unaware of the power God puts into her hand; this power is rarely, if ever, used – never used to the full measure of honoring God. It is astounding how poor the use, how little the benefits. Prayer is our most formidable weapon, but the one in which we are the least skilled, the most averse to its use. We do everything else for the heathen save the thing God wants us to do; the only thing which does any good – makes all else we do efficient.”

Adoration:

“Who among the gods is like you, O Lord? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders?”

Exodus 15:11

“Let all of us, Wherever we are, In every place, At every hour, At every time of day, Every day and continually…love, honor, adore, serve, praise and bless, Glorify and exalt, magnify…The Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, Creator of all, Savior of all who believe in him, And hope in him, And love him; Who is without beginning and without end, Unchangeable and invisible, Incomprehensible, unfathomable, Blessed, worthy of praise, Glorious, exalted on high, sublime, Most high, gentle, lovable, Delectable and totally desirable above all else forever. AMEN.”

St. Francis of Assissi

Confession:

“Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the LORD’— and you forgave the guilt of my sin.”

Psalm 32:5

“Confession to God is not merely admitting our sin as real but also rejecting our sin as repulsive. There is deceit in the spirit of the person who admits with his mind that he sins but feels no revulsion in his heart at those sins.”

John Piper

Thanksgiving:

“Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men.”

Psalm 107:31

“Let us thank God heartily as often as we pray that we have His Spirit in us to teach us to pray. Thanksgiving will draw our hearts out to God and keep us engaged with Him; it will take our attention from ourselves and give the Spirit room in our hearts.”

Andrew Murray

Supplication:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:6-7

“God does nothing except in response to believing prayer.”

John Wesley

“I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone — for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
